Numeracy is compulsory for all pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. The progress of each pupil is monitored carefully throughout the five year course. At the end of Year 9 pupils are placed in sets according to their ability, the appropriate set being decided by their teachers, the decision being based upon both examination results obtained at the end of the year and tests/work completed during the year.

Depending on ability, pupils will follow a course leading to one of:

  • GCSE/Key Stage 4 – Numeracy Higher (A* – C)
  • GCSE/Key Stage 4 – Numeracy Intermediate (B – E)
  • GCSE/Key Stage 4 – Numeracy Foundation (D – G)

For pupils whose work either improves, or deteriorates, during Year 10 and 11, changes between tiers will be possible.
