Year 6 to Year 7

Transition

There are so many events that take place throughout the school year that aim to prepare both year 5 and 6 pupils for their transition to Gowerton School. Some of these include, sporting, music, and technology events, and also our North Gower Partnership Music Festival at the Brangwyn Hall.

During the second half of the Summer Term, year 6 pupils are invited to join us for 4 days of transition activities. A timetable is arranged with the aim of introducing the pupils to life at Gowerton. The transition from primary to secondary can sometimes be daunting for both families and pupils. We hope that these taster days will be a fun experience and will also alleviate and fears they may have regarding the move to secondary school. During these four days year 6 pupils will become more familiar with the school site, will meet the fellow prospective pupils, existing pupils and staff.

Lessons in Year 7

Transition Plan

Lessons in Year 7 are designed to build on Primary School learning  experiences. We aim to improve literacy and numeracy skills, to introduce new subjects like modern foreign languages’, and to develop life-long learning skills.

Most pupils will be in mixed ability classes from September. During the year, pupils will be assessed and put into teaching groups appropriate to  ensure students are correctly placed and their individual learning needs are catered for.
