Recently, all of Year Eight have been involved in the First Give programme which involved the pupils choosing a social issue that they felt affected our local community and subsequently picking a relevant charity to support.
Through a variety of events, the pupils have been fund raising and raising awareness for: Bikeability, Swansea Mind, Barod, Matthew’s House and Popham Kidney Support and have raised hundreds of pounds for these charities. The programme accumulated in a fantastic grand final where groups from each class confidently presented to an audience which included the whole year group, charity representatives and a judging panel.
The presentations were absolutely fabulous, showcasing what ambitious and enterprising pupils we have here at Gowerton School! It was an incredibly hard decision but the winning group was 8N (Callie Matthews, Abi Giffard, Lillie Richards, Alex Blyth and Joe Thomas, who were awarded the £1000 for their chosen Charity.
